U.C. San Diego Jumps Ahead in Chemical Research
The leading chemistry trade magazine C&EN reported in their Nov. 14, 2011 issue that U.C. San Diego was among the 'big movers' in dollars spent on chemistry research. U.C. San Diego ranked #10 in the nation in overall spending on chemical research ($24M) and #7 in federal support for chemical research ($18M). The expenditures on chemical research at U.C. San Diego are matched only by the top research institutions, such as Northwestern University, Harvard University, and our sister school U.C. Berkeley. In addition, U.C. San Diego ranked #6 in country for all R&D spending (including life sciences, engineering, mathematics, chemistry, and others), placing it above elite institutions such as Cornell University, Stanford University, and M.I.T.
