Are you a community college student from San Diego County who is interested in chemical research? We welcome your application to participate in our newly funded NSF-REU program!
Program Overview
Our '4cs @ UCSD' program offers intensive research experience in the chemical sciences for 10 first-year students from local two-year colleges. No prior research experience required. Students will work closely with faculty and graduate students on research projects related to their interests.
Program Goals
- Broaden participation of underrepresented groups in undergraduate research.
- Facilitate the transition of community college students to baccalaureate and graduate programs.
- Engage in effective mentoring for inclusive research training.
- Expand access to academic resources, fostering collaborations between UC San Diego and local two-year colleges.
Program Timeline
- Orientation in late Spring
- Summer and Fall research placement
- Enrichment activities spanning to the next Spring
Program Features
- Extended research experience: 10-week summer and 10-week fall apprenticeship
- Enrichment activities: Workshops, seminars, field trips, and socials
- Mentorship and community building: Access to UCSD and community college faculty
- Financial Support: $5000 stipend for summer, $1000 for academic year, parking passes provided
- Additional opportunities: Academic credit through UCSD Extension (fees not covered)
